Guus Janssen composed the opening work ...van horen zingen... (hear singing) for me in the spring of 2020 at my request.
It is a present to dispel the silence due to the roaming virus in the spring of 2020. The lightness and charm of the basset horn comes out well in this piece. The beginning and the end seem fragmentary, but the silences have a tension, it is as if you keep waiting for the blackbird on the roof to start singing again. The middle part is like a palimpsest. Guus Janssen: „first there was the song Cherokee by Ray Noble, on top of it the line Marshmallow by Warne Marsh and and then my piece that drifts further away from the original.“
