The Dutch Ruud Roelofsen (1985) was trained as a percussionist, but has developed into a composer of international repute. In many of his works, he explores the boundary between what can still be called 'music' and what falls just outside it, such as rustling sounds or sequences of independent sounds.

So too in on intimacy, a series of pieces inspired by Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (ASMR). This is the phenomenon of pleasant, subtle bodily sensations that can be induced by sensory stimuli. ASMR can be triggered by images, smells and touch as well as by sounds.

The sixth part of the ‘on intimacy’ series was dedicated to Fie Schouten. It can be performed in different versions. The instrumentation on this CD is bass clarinet, percussion, cello and electronics. Behind the seemingly free flow of sounds hides a score that is detailed, precise and complex. The result is an extremely refined, fragile sound world.
